The Magnificent Dachstein Glacier Skywalk

Aside from its incredible beauty, Dachstein Glacier is one of the highest of its kind in Sytria, Austria. This attraction has managed to become one of the premier tourist destinations in the region. Even the journey to this alpine glacier promises to be a marvelous experience.

Aided by the Dachstein gondola service, you will be able to ascend to an altitude of 2500 meters and pass by the steep rock faces. Getting up this high up means experiencing spectacular views of the snow-capped Slovenian Triglav Mountains. Plus, you will have that exhilarating feeling knowing that you are on top of the world, an experience almost second to none.

Visiting to Dachstein Glacier is not just about stunning views, although it is enough reason to conquer its peak. Up on this glacier, there are exciting activities you can engage in. Some of the outdoor activities to try out include cross-country skiing, snowboarding, skiing, hiking and for those who are not afraid of heights, paragliding. There are local operators in the area that offer numerous ski tours as well as steep descents and crossovers, which are perfect for daredevils.

Most of the tours start at the mountain station of the Dachstein cable car. If you miss skiing in the winter, Dachstein Glacier is the best place to try out this sport in the summer. This is because snow conditions remain excellent even at this time of the year, especially on the Glacier’s flat north-faced sloped. Dachstein has ski runs that cater to all levels of skier including the beginners.

There are also a couple of amazing attractions worth exploring once you are at the glacier area. One of them is the Dachstein Ice palace, which is quite unique in all of Austria. The Ice Palace was created to give guests the opportunity of reaching into the enchanting icy interior of the Dachstein Glacier. What is even more interesting is this palace remains intact despite of changes in weather conditions. You will only need to walk for three minutes from the Dachstein mountain station to reach this attraction.

If you absolutely love views, and are not afraid of looking down, then proceed to the viewing platform called Dachstein Sky Walk. With an elevation of 2700 meters, this is probably one of the scariest yet most exhilarating viewing platforms you will ever encounter on your travels. As you stand here, the Hunerkogel rock face will be directly under your feet. If this downward view starts to scare you, just look up at the gorgeous mountain scenery, and it will remind you why you have traveled to Dachstein in the first place. Just next to the platform lies a path that terminates the Upper Station of the Dachstein Gletscherbahn. Following this path gives you an unprecedented view of the Dachstein’s southern wall.
